Custom Variables let you store your own lead data and use it to personalize your email and LinkedIn outreach. You can create custom fields such as Ice Breaker, Pain Point, Website Summary, Company Description, or any other information that's unique to your outreach strategy.
Once a custom variable is created, it becomes a lead field across your workspace and can be mapped during CSV import.
Why use Custom Variables?
Custom Variables help you:
Personalize emails and LinkedIn messages with your own lead data.
Import AI-generated or manually created personalization from CSV files.
Store additional information that isn't available in Outboundry's default lead fields.
Reuse the same data across campaigns.
Example:
If your CSV contains an Ice Breaker column, you can map it to a custom variable and use it in your messages.
Hi {{first_name}},
{{ice_breaker}}
I wanted to reach out because...
Create a Custom Variable
Go to Settings → Custom Variables.
Click Add Custom Variable.
-
Enter:
Field Name (e.g. Ice Breaker)
Field Type
Click Create.
After creating the variable, it becomes available across your workspace.
Note: Custom Variables are shared across all leads and campaigns within the workspace.
Map Custom Variables during CSV Import
When importing leads via CSV:
Upload your CSV file.
On the field mapping screen, locate your custom variable from the dropdown.
Map the corresponding CSV column.
Complete the import.
For example:
CSV Column |
Map To |
|---|---|
Ice Breaker |
Ice Breaker |
Company Summary |
Company Summary |
Pain Point |
Pain Point |
The imported values will automatically be stored against each lead.
View Custom Variable Values
After the import is complete:
Every mapped value is stored as a lead field.
You can view it from the Leads page by enabling the respective column.
The data stays associated with the lead and can be used in any campaign.
Use Custom Variables in Emails & LinkedIn Messages
Once the data has been imported, simply insert the custom variable while composing your email or LinkedIn message.
Example:
Hi {{first_name}},
{{ice_breaker}}
I noticed you're leading growth at {{company_name}}...
During campaign execution, Outboundry replaces the variable with the value stored for that lead.
Example
Variable:
{{ice_breaker}}
Stored Value:
Congratulations on your recent Series A funding!
Final Message:
Hi John,
Congratulations on your recent Series A funding!
I noticed you're leading growth at Acme...
Edit or Delete a Custom Variable
Go to Settings → Custom Variables.
From here you can:
Edit the variable name or configuration.
Delete variables that are no longer needed.
Note: Deleting a custom variable removes it from your workspace and it will no longer be available for personalization.
Best Practices
Use descriptive names like Ice Breaker, Pain Point, Case Study, or Website Summary.
Keep one type of information per custom variable.
Map the same CSV column consistently across imports.
Use custom variables only where personalization adds value instead of filling every message with dynamic content.
